Six years after the old Thompson Outpost burned down, Barb and Dean Wood, have opened Woody's Outpost in the same location. The market has everything from gas, beer, wine, grocery items, bait and tackle, and a soon to come, pizza and a deli, serving up unique food items.
The Schoolcraft County EDC, and the Manistique Merchant's Association partnered to celebrate the store opening with a First Dollar presentation, and a one year membership to the MMA. Studio 906 was recently presented with a "first dollar" from the Schoolcraft County Economic Development Corporation and a first-year membership to the Manistique Merchants Association from the MMA. Studio 906 is owned by Ashley Winkel and opened in the fall of 2015. The business employs several others in the salon: Jennifer Lancour (top cosmologist), Melissa Weber (nail technician), Kylee Weber (apprentice), and coming soon, Becca Bowers. It is a full-service salon, offering hair design services, hair and scalp treatments, complete nail services, waxing, and tanning packages. The Schoolcraft County Economic Development Corporation recently presented a "First Dollar", and the Manistique Merchants' Association presented a first-year membership, to Troy's Auto Repair. Troy Bassett is the owner of Troy's Auto Repair, having purchased the old Fannin Oil property in 2015. Bassett is a third-generation mechanic, and he and his team offer full-service automotive repairs, as well as plows. "I'm excited to be able to offer my services to the residents of our area," said Bassett. "We've seen great support since we've opened." The Merchants' Association meets the first Tuesday of the month, at 8 a.m., in The DownTowner. The Schoolcraft County EDC meets the first Wednesday of the month, at 3:30 p.m., also at The DownTowner. A "first dollar" was recently presented to Robin, middle, and Jim Barker, right, owners of the End of the Road Winery in Germfask. The Barkers made wine for family and friends for many years before deciding to create a commercial winery. The winery is located at the end of Burns Road in Germfask. The Barkers are producing several varieties of wine, including berry and traditional grape wines. They offer wine tasting as well. As a part of the recently implemented “First Dollar” program, representatives from the Schoolcraft County Economic Development Corporation presented the owners of Cedar Street Cinemas in Manistique their very own first dollar. Pictured from left to right are EDC Board Chairperson Don Erickson, Paul Gibbs, Toni St. Pierre, Debbe St. Pierre, Dennis St. Pierre, and EDC Executive Director Alan Barr. Barr recently stated, “The EDC, and our entire community, is appreciative of the St. Pierre’s taking a risk and re-opening the movie theater. They have invested their own money and time to bring back a much-needed entertainment venue. Thank you!” The St. Pierre’s have been longtime residents of Schoolcraft County.

Autore is a Lake Superior State University graduate and has been with State Farm for three years. He recently opened offices in both Munising and Manistique. Anthony is a father of two, is planning to marry this summer, and enjoys the outdoors. "I was born in the U.P. and will stay in the U.P. I'm looking forward to giving back to the great small towns of Munising and Manistique, especially the kids, because I know what it's like to grow up in towns like these, and I want to make a difference," he stated.
